Psychiatry: An Industry of Death and Misery

Psychiatry and the drugs psychiatric practice revolves around is a multi-billion dollar a year industry. Psychiatrists, the drug industry and everyone connected profit form the prescribing of psychiatric drugs. It's something that people I come across have completely lost sight of. A huge money maker for both psychiatry and the drug industry are the neuroleptic or so called antipsychotic drugs. These expensive drugs are the top revenue producers in the United States topping cholesterol lowing drugs. These brain damaging, brain disabling drugs, the use of which often leads to chronic disability for people labeled with schizophrenia have such a detrimental effect on a persons health that users of those drugs die 25 years earlier on average. Psychiatry, the drug industry and everyone connected profit from that a lot like the tobacco industry profits from its products. Psychiatry and the use of psychiatric drugs is fueling an epidemic of mental illness, read Robert Whitaker's Anatomy of an Epidemic here. It's an industry that doesn't make money on recovery and hope, it makes money on the drug Zyprexa.
